It's great to see you blogging, Mike - nice work!!

Regarding my 2nd passion, I'd have to say it's exactly what I'm doing for work!! In fact, the line is so blurred, it doesn't feel like work!! Leadership and Talent Management are truly what I'm passionate about, because if done well, it all comes down to people being inspired and more fulfilled. To me, that's what life is all about...and as such, I pretty much spend all my time, both personally and professionally, focused on helping people to become inspired. I have boundless amounts of energy and happiness, so I truly feel that it's my calling!! Thanks for asking the question!

Colleague + friend Mike Ramer:

We appreciate you sharing a unique wisdom! It's clear you love this business + the new media touch points currently driving an array of innovative ideas.

I'm tempted to over-think this - 2nd Life Passions are an essential ingredient for professional + personal success.

@ValueIntoWords sailing (a.k.a. simply being on the water) is a primary 2nd Life Passion we share - it connects us (first to admit my passion(s) a few)

@jlipschultz we share cycling as 2nd Life Passion

Inspired by a member of my @TalentCulture team this week:

Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief.
-William Shakespeare

Do what you love = love what you do.

Mike,
Your two overriding factors in winning new business really resonate with me: 1) saying the right things to right people at right time and 2) connecting with people on personal level. In my 11 years as a business owner, these two factors impacted virtually every sales win! They must coexist, I believe, to create a practical, creative, harmonious client partnership.

As well, I wanted to add that my 2nd Life Passion (Sailing a 34-foot sailboat) has knit intimately into my work life. Navigating the sailing lifestyle has fueled blogs that equate the rigors of sailing to job search, and has inspired pithy tweets and exchanges between fellow sailors and myself on Twitter (@MeghanMBiro and @mypromotion).

Moreover, when sailing, I resolve many of my own business challenges; I draw natural parallels to business problems when tacking, turning into the wind, hoisting sails, handling gusts of winds, patiently enduring light or no-wind days, etc.

In my sailing community, business is not a central topic, but on occasion, when asked about 'what I do,' I have found my sailing partner (hubby) to be my biggest advocate in translating my value to the inquirer in a way well beyond my own inspired responses regarding my executive resume writing 'prowess.' :) This is a value-add to sharing a 2nd Life with one's spouse or significant.

As well, my energy from a day of sailing spills over when I return to the office, adding vigor to sales calls and ultimately, impacting my ability to forge new, more meaningful client relationships.

Again - thanks for an inspiring, useful and educational blog post, Mike!

I like your thinking here Mike. Social media is just that - it's social. It's about building relationships, not building sales. So we should share who we are. Spot on!

Thanks for bringing to light some of the passions that drive professional relationship builders and enabling me to get to learn something new about several of the Recruiters using social media that I network with. I also enjoyed your phone call and the opportunity to get to know you better!

When you do something you love it reflects in every area of your life.

Mike really got me thinking about this when he interviewed me. I have since put more thought in crossing the two paths more often. Example: http://twurl.nl/ihl3ht
Thanks for the ideas, Mike.
Cheers,
Jeff
