    Mike,
Would agree with your philosophy on social media for brand promotion. You might want to look at “communities” over web sites in a future blog. I’m just switching over. In terms of blogging and PR, you need to define your target audience and have clear and measurable objectives. You also need to consider how you can use “social tools” in your existing offering. I now incorporate these in to my training for recruiters. removes the geography boundaries.
As a last tip, you need a clear definition of what you offer. If your services are very different consider distinct brands. This allows definition in your marketing effort and makes targeting the different prospect groups easier.
Good luck with the blog, till tomorrow

10 laws are spot on- love the blog-

Relationships, Networking, and Collaboration is the new world order- could not agree with you more!

I realize I’m coming late to this, but numbers six and seven jumped out at me:

#6- Build your brand everyday. Thru PR, advertising, industry events and social media.
#7- Hone your craft. Learn each day from people, words, questioning and experimenting.

These two are particularly relevant in my life these days.

I think all points are spot on. 4,5& 6 are more reflective of today’s society. The other points are somewhat timeless in that they have and will always apply to some degree.

I agree with the idea of being unique and defining yourself and your story. But there’s also a serious need for people to be good listeners at all levels in a business. This applies to Social Media and PR too. They’re about interacting with other people, not just broadcasting your message.

    Sean, Bill, Steve,

Thank you for commenting on this post I wrote back in July 2009! As I reread my “10 New Laws”, the same apply today…for all businesses.

I think we are still in the beginning build-out of a new “WOW” (Wide Open World). As I say in my training, I think we’re in the 3rd inning of 9 inning game. It is within our ability to use the new tools available now to build our businesses and our brand.

Sean – I’m glad #6 and #7 resonate with you. They are two of my favorites also.

Bill – Agree #4, #5, #6 are reflective of today’s society. Appreciate you saying the others are “timeless”.

Steve – Absolutely, there is a “serious need for people to be good listeners at all levels of business.” Though not my strongest attribute, I continue to focus on this everyday.

    Best, Mike

Great post! Being a business owner for over
a decade the saving grace for us during the
    recession was: “multi-expert”. By being
able to jump from one area to another brought
    in extra $$$’s overall.

    Kim, Philomena, Beauty,

I appreciate you stopping by and adding your comments.

Kim – Your comment “Timeless information even more relevant today” has inspired me to repost this in my social media channels, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook.

Philomena – Re: Your comment “other website owners should take this website as a model”. Appreciate that. Lots of time, thought and dollars went into the design elements.

Beauty – Agree with you completely “there also a serious need for people to be good listeners at all levels in a business.” Social media is helping, I think.

    Best, Mike

    Kate, Cassandra,

Sorry for my belated response from your comments in April.

Kate – Absolutely a “diversity” strategy is wise to develop business in related channels.

Cassandra – Your one sentence says is all. Social media has enabled the blend of business and personal. People want to know and do business with people.

    Best, Mike
